Cool Weekend and Early Next Week Midwest and Plains

Once again, forecasters from local TV stations are not going cool enough for temperatures this upcoming weekend all across the Upper Midwest, Midwest and Central Plains.

From Detroit, Cincinnati, Chicago, Kansas City, Minneapolis and all points in between, it is going to be a good taste of October autumn. Pretty much between Saturday thru Tuesday, expect the overall temperatures to be about 3-5F cooler for both the high and low by any of these TV stations.

I can see low temperatures dipping into the mid-40s for a couple of nights with even some pockets of 30s, especially when high pressure settles in later this weekend into early next week. The early part of the weekend will be cloudier (maybe rainy/drizzling) and keep high temperatures cooler than forecast (50s and 60s). By early next week there will be plenty of sunshine to warm the very cool starts to the day into the 60s and 70s.

T.S. Danny is a phony

1pm... T.S. Danny should not be considered at all a tropical storm. The bottom line is this, when the alleged low-level circulation is detached from the deep convection in a NON-SHEAR environment, and the 50kt flight level winds in the 18z RECON was located 150miles from the center of the alleged low-level circulation, but only a 20kt flight level winds 60miles from the center of circulation, AND not to mention the pressure is only 1007mb (hardly low enough in my mind to justify 50kt winds), this system to me is more of a synoptic feature than tropical. In fact, that low-level feature seems more a part of the upper-level trough feature just to its west, and the true circulation would reveal itself under the constant deep convection to its east.

Heck, that wave a few hundered miles off the Africa coast looks better defined than this garbage.

Now after the 5pm advisory, they are STILL calling this thing a tropical storm, although now they have lowered the winds to 45kts and also do not project it to become a hurricane in their forecast. Nonetheless, it still looks poorly organized. What makes little sense to me is how they have been wording their discussions. They try to justify it being a tropical storm, but treat it as if it were a tropical wave. An example is from the latest forecast discussion quote:

"REPORTS FROM AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT INDICATE THAT THE CIRCULATION OF DANNY HAS BECOME BETTER DEFINED TODAY...WITH STRONGER WINDS IN THE PREVIOUSLY WEAK SOUTHWESTERN QUADRANT. ASIDE FROM THAT...THE CYCLONE REMAINS VERY DISORGANIZED. THE MAIN CONVECTION IS IN A LINE 130-170 N MI EAST THROUGH SOUTH OF THE CENTER...AND THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE 100 N MI OR MORE FROM THE CENTER OVER THE NORTHERN SEMICIRCLE."

Hmm, from what I can recall the winds tend to get stronger as you approach the center of circulation, not the other way around. That is what we call a synoptic storm (i.e. Nor'Easter).
Anywho, I think I have done enough venting on this thing.

Snow flakes to 80s in as little as 3-days.

The title sounds like one of those "too-good-to-be-true" infomercials about how you can go from disaster to incredible almost instantly. Well it is looking to be quite true. The weather here across much of the Eastern US this week is going to catch on to our norm in society... that is, we want instant gratification.
First though we will have to deal with the clouds and some wet snowflakes come Tuesday. As we haven't seen enough of the snow, it has been yet another top 10 snowiest winter on record out of 130 winters here in Detroit. Much can be said for many cities across the Midwest and Plains. However, don't expect it to be accumulating like the earlier snowstorm did this month as temperatures will be well above freezing.
The cold temperatures will last thru Wednesday and then a warm front will make its way towards the Midwest by Thursday pushing temperatures into the 50s. Once that warm front passes, temperatures look to pop! In fact, there is potential to see 80F temperatures for Friday and Saturday across much of the Midwest before the next cold front slices in on Sunday.
So hang in there, this cold weather will not last for long.

Just some Spring optimism

I can imagine many of us, including myself, here in the state of Michigan and other northern states are about done dealing with winter. However, as meteorological Spring approaches this weekend, I thought I share some "warm" thoughts on what to look forward to in the coming month. As of right now, the average high temperatures across the Northern US is somewhere in the range of the mid-30s to the mid-40s. By the end of the month of March, the average temperature will be some 10-15F (or 1F warmer every 2.5 days), which means average high temperatures in the mid-40s to mid-50s. And for many of us, we all know how nice it felt outside when we did get this warm briefly this winter season. Days are getting longer too, and that is an uplifting feeling to see more of the sun in the coming weeks. So hang in there everybody :)

Earth Hour...wrong intentions

I know this Earth Hour is a recent thing, but I am getting fed up with the notion we should turn off our lights for an hour to acknowledge we humans are the cause of "climate change" and need to reduce our "carbon footprint". What a bunch of nonsense. Look, if Earth Hour was designed to say "hey, let's keep the lights off for an hour to acknowledge our part in being more economical with our environment" I'd say I'm all for it. However, for the fact we have a bunch of global-warming alarmist clowns parading the idea our future kids are going to melt in a searing earth we created by our "carbon footprint" if we don't do something like turn off the lights for an hour is just mind-boggling!
Let me make this plain and simple. The pollutants/chemicals we put in the atmosphere, in our homes, and then eventually these get into the food and water we put into our bodies will have a much more profound effect on the future of us and our kids long before the idea of global warming/climate change that is being shoved down your throats will ever come to pass. Because the reality is the influence of man-made global warming is much much smaller than what you are lead to believe, and there is plenty of proof to show this. If you take that opportunity to keep your lights off for an hour come march 29th @ 8:30pm then do it for the sake of reducing the pollutants in our environment, but please don't do this for the sake of stopping climate change/man-made global warming because it is just an untrue cause.
